The Truth

Here’s the truth: most founders show up to retail opportunities excited but unprepared.

We’ve seen it time and again — incredible products, passionate teams, and strong online traction — but when it’s time to meet with buyers, something doesn’t connect.

Not because the idea isn’t strong.
Because the business isn’t fully aligned — the story, pricing, packaging, and operational plan aren’t working together.

And when that happens, even great brands lose momentum.

That moment — watching talented founders stall because they didn’t have the right structure — is what pushed us to create Ready for Retail.

We’ve Been There

Before Ready for Retail, I spent years behind the scenes helping brands plan, pitch, and scale. I sat in on buyer meetings, reviewed brand decks, and supported founders through everything from packaging changes to forecasting and fulfillment.

And I started to see a pattern.

Founders were showing up to retail with incredible products — but they didn’t have a plan that connected every part of their business.
Their operations couldn’t support their goals.
Their pricing didn’t align with their cost structure.
Their story and sales approach weren’t built for how retail actually works.

They’d built strong businesses online — but the rules, pace, and expectations shift when you move into retail.

That’s when we realized: founders don’t need more motivation — they need translation.

They need someone who’s been in those rooms and understands how product, operations, and strategy come together to build a scalable retail business.

That’s where Ready for Retail comes in.

The Problem No One Talks About

The retail world isn’t designed for small, growing brands.
It’s full of unwritten expectations and unspoken language — what buyers look for, how they evaluate fit, and how they imagine a brand’s future on the shelf.

Most founders only learn those lessons the hard way.
They spend months preparing for pitch opportunities like Walmart Open Call, eCRM or Lowe’s Into the Blue, only to realize that their story and strategy don’t align with what buyers expect.

And the advice out there?
Too broad. Too Expensive. Lacking real action.
It rarely helps founders connect the dots between what’s inspiring and what’s operationally possible.

That’s why we built Ready for Retail — to give founders a playbook that fits their  path, their brand, and their market opportunity.

What We Built

Ready for Retail was created to take the mystery out of retail.

Through our Retail Readiness Academy, Coaching Programs, and Network of Consulting Experts, we help founders prepare for growth — step by step.

Our approach is simple:

  • Clarity over confusion. We help you define your brand story, positioning, and readiness across all five pillars — product, operations, admin, sales, and marketing — so you know exactly where you stand.

  • Confidence through preparation. You’ll understand how to talk about your business, your audience, and your strategy in ways that make sense to buyers, investors, and your internal team.

  • Focus that fits your path. Whether you’re preparing for your first Open Call or expanding into multiple retailers, we help you build a strategy that fits your brand, not someone else’s.

We’re not here to make retail sound easy — we’re here to make it doable.

Retail success doesn’t come from one great product or pitch — it comes from getting every part of your business ready to work together.

The Lesson

Generic advice can’t get you shelf-ready.
You need a roadmap that fits your business, your category, and your channel strategy.

“ Founders don't fail because they lack passion - they fail because they're following the wrong playbook, or don't have a playbook at all."

- Brian O'Dell, Co-Founder Ready for Retail

That’s why Ready for Retail helps founders build their playbook — one that fits their goals and where they are in the journey.

Retail isn’t about guessing what buyers want — it’s about knowing who you are, who you serve, and where your brand fits best.

Once you see that clearly, retail stops feeling like guesswork and starts feeling like growth.

The Bottom Line

If you’ve ever dreamed about seeing your product on shelves — or wondered what it really takes to get there — you’re not alone.

We built Ready for Retail because we’ve been there.
We know how complex, confusing, and exciting this process can be — and we’re here to help you make it achievable.

Because every great product deserves to be seen — and every founder deserves a partner who can help them make it happen.

If you're wondering whether your business is truly ready for retail, you're not alone—and you don’t have to guess. Take the Free Retail Readiness Assessment to see where you are and what comes next.
